Description
About the film
The film tells the story of the largest bank heist in the history of the Soviet Union.
In 1977, in the capital of Soviet Armenia, Yerevan, the most daring and high-profile bank heist in the history of the USSR took place. Two cousins, Nikolai Kalachyan and Felix Kalachyan, carried out the heist of the State Bank (Gosbank) and stole approximately 1.5 million Soviet rubles — an enormous amount for that time. The stolen money was equivalent to the cost of an entire factory or residential district. The unusual tool used in the heist was a children’s umbrella (“ZONTIK” — Russian for “umbrella”).
This case remained secret for many years and became known to the public only after the collapse of the USSR.
To this day, it is considered one of the most unusual and daring heists in the history of mankind.
